Here at Bishop Lifting Equipment, we have been supplying lifting equipment for nearly forty years, which we distribute throughout the UK and beyond. As part of our range, we have hydraulic cylinders for sale.
A hydraulic cylinder is a type of mechanical actuator that offers a unidirectional stroke used within the construction industry, as well as in engineering and manufacturing. They are powered by pressurised hydraulic fluid, which is usually oil. At Bishop Lifting Equipment, we offer both single acting and double acting hydraulic cylinders.
Single acting hydraulic cylinders mean that the fluid enters through at port at one end of the cylinder, extending the rod through area difference, with an external force (an internal reaction spring) returning the piston rod. This means that the pressure build-up is in one direction only.
Double acting hydraulic cylinders consists of hydraulic pressure in both directions, both pushing and pulling. However, the pulling force will always be lower than the pushing force due to the available area of the piston. The ports located at both sides of the piston, hydraulic fluid is supplied for both the retraction and extension.
When comparing both single and double acting hydraulic cylinders, single acting cylinders are considered more economical and have the simplest design. It is important to consider which option will best suit your requirements.
