Hydraulic cylinders come in two general forms – single acting hydraulic cylinders and double acting hydraulic cylinder.
Single acting Hydraulic Cylinders
The piston travel is achieved via hydraulic pressure and is then returned by spring force (pressure build up in one direction only)
Double acting Hydraulic Cylinders
The piston travel is achieved by means of hydraulic pressure in both directions (push and pulling forces are available, however, pulling power will always be lower due to the available area of the piston).
